1st Communitas Meeting for the KKFT

Tonight marks a monumental occasion for the entire KKFT-October 12, 2008. Tonight we attended our first official Communitas Sunday night meeting in New York City. Really, it was nothing monumental, no large fanfare, no ticker tape parade, no flamethrowers. Just a group of people meeting in an odd shaped office space with a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Talking about the group continuing to meet weekly to discuss the following of Jesus they are trying to take care of during each week they live here in the city. Just a group of people praying together, eating pizza together, talking about opportunities that they face each day in a city of millions. I have to be honest, I did feel a bit odd sitting in this room with the kallens, with the pastor's family, with my family, and others on the team, and new friends from the city that have joined in. It was real. It was visceral. It was palpable. The flavor of Jesus overwhelms me at times.
People on this team still seeking employment here. People trying to figure out how God will utilize them daily here to shine some light in a crazy crazy place that is full of opportunities to deny Jesus and the work of God.
But as we leave the meeting, people leave the offices at Calvary Church, and we walk through the city to our prospective apartments to sleep another night. Walking the streets, people still scatter throughout the city on their way to home, to shop, to see a friend. So many people that don't understand the power of Jesus' sacrifice for us, the power in living the life He created for us to live, the love and grace that God wants to pour over us if we only accept his sacrifice. But just as we turn to Him for our grace and power, we are all guilty of turning to our own idols, whatever they might be for each one of us as individuals, instead of following His ways. But God pours his grace over our sins, He keeps his covenants no matter what, He walks with us in our lives and gives us a hope eternal that can not be described without a life altering experience. I thank God for revealing himself to me, and for calling me to something more than the consumer lifestyle that made so much sense before. I thank Him for leading me away from the ways of this world and into the ways that offer hope eternal. I pray for others to experience the same, and that I might be an instrument that shines His light in a dark path for anyone that will listen.
