Another Championship

Yes, it's true. I'm still a gigantic NASCAR fanatic. I love racing. I so appreciate the amount of work that goes into what most people dub: "driving around in circles". Yeah, that's why Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and Toyota pour millions and millions of dollars into the sport. Anywho, a few of my compadres have had a fantasy league for a few years now, and that makes it even more interesting. Again this year, I came up with the championship with a margin of 269 points. I felt kind of like Jimmy Johnson at the end, and here's my post to my competitors that donated their money to the championship purse:

I can't say enough about the crew, my sponsors-Red Bull and Belvedere Vodka, Starbucks, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. Without them, we would not have been able to have the season we did. Although I did feel a bit like Jimmy Johnson during the chase, it was another great year of racing with y'all. Can't say how I'll spend the winning purse yet, but I'm looking forward to it.Just want to give some shout outs-To the quitters that sucked-better luck next year.To Fishbone-what a start up season to come in second!To Nugget-way to finish last with humility.To Mattsy-Way to not suck as bad as you used to. To all my competitors-we'll be back next year, please invite your friends to participate if they can handle the pressure.Lastly, to my wife for tolerating all my racing interests and for supporting me through a tough season: moving our HQ, and new 'shop' location. I love you, schmoopy.

Happy to see the shout out to wifey, or I was going to have to comment about 6 hours straight of "VROOM Vroooom VRRRROOOOOOOM" (with announcers yelling to be heard over the revving engines) on a sunday afternoon in an 800 sq ft apt with NOWHERE to go to escape the sound. Nugget might be glad the season is over for her own reasons, I am just glad it's over.period.

Big Difference.

I heard my superstar say this to the girls this week: "Discipline sounds like something that is bad, right? But really, it isn't. It means to push yourself to doing something. Like journalling, reading your bible, spending time with God. That is a spiritual discipline. See how that isn't a bad thing?" For nearly four years now (you can get the full story if you look back to 2007 postings), I have certainly elevated my game in the area of spiritual disciplines. Reading the bible more than I ever did before, truly engaging with what God's desire is for my life, not just when it is convenient, trying to spend time being still and listening to what God has to say to me, and one thing I never really understood why superstar did it - journalling. I really started engaging in my morning "Java with Jesus" when I began to work for my company in the D. I would get up early to drive down Alter Road to the little park where the lake turns into the D river.

By far the most beautiful.

It has been a week since the death of my mother. A week ago right now, I was going on 14 minutes of sleep knowing that my mom had made her transition to heaven. That day brought many emotions for certain. A lot of sadness and grief knowing that she was gone from this world. Sadness in knowing that I would never again hear the sweet sound of my mother's voice calling my name from somewhere off in the distance. Knowing that my children would no longer run from here to there shouting "GRANDMA!" as I have so many times seen them do with such joy in their hearts. Knowing that I would never again on this earth see Hon and Hon holding each other. Kissing. Making each other laugh. This doesn't seem like a moment to speak about the beauty of life, yet I can only find myself focusing the last few days on just that - the beauty of life.
