Danny Cox Rules

Among other things, over a foot of snow fell upon this grand city Saturday afternoon/evening on into the morning of Sunday. We landed at about 13" in "The Terrace", and I realized just how much a snowfall brings me into the spirit of Christmas and brings joy to my heart to see all things white. The beauty of the flakes, the quiet that falls from above paints things like they were not before. There is so much beauty in that.
Speaking of beauty, Kushmonkey came and watched the girls Saturday night so we could enjoy an evening out with some dear friends of communitas. What a perfect evening to be out in a blizzard....and I actually mean that. Walking in the city with the hustle and bustle slowed to a crawl because of the snow, great conversations at a lovely restaurant that was actually reasonable-much praise to RR for putting it all together. The beauty I see in my closest friends is that of Jesus. Their willingness to show their brokenness and live open handedly helps me to continue down the road.
Lastly-I think I mentioned Danny Cox coming to nyc to celbrate with communitas for Thanksgiving. I listen to at least part of his new album almost daily. And because of the razorback, I'm actually learning to play a couple-coolness. The songs are so singable, I find myself waking up with the words in my mouth. Throughout the day, lines from the songs float into my consciousness and remind me of the purpose of life, and the promise there is in Jesus. Danny Cox Rules.

Big Difference.

I heard my superstar say this to the girls this week: "Discipline sounds like something that is bad, right? But really, it isn't. It means to push yourself to doing something. Like journalling, reading your bible, spending time with God. That is a spiritual discipline. See how that isn't a bad thing?" For nearly four years now (you can get the full story if you look back to 2007 postings), I have certainly elevated my game in the area of spiritual disciplines. Reading the bible more than I ever did before, truly engaging with what God's desire is for my life, not just when it is convenient, trying to spend time being still and listening to what God has to say to me, and one thing I never really understood why superstar did it - journalling. I really started engaging in my morning "Java with Jesus" when I began to work for my company in the D. I would get up early to drive down Alter Road to the little park where the lake turns into the D river.

By far the most beautiful.

It has been a week since the death of my mother. A week ago right now, I was going on 14 minutes of sleep knowing that my mom had made her transition to heaven. That day brought many emotions for certain. A lot of sadness and grief knowing that she was gone from this world. Sadness in knowing that I would never again hear the sweet sound of my mother's voice calling my name from somewhere off in the distance. Knowing that my children would no longer run from here to there shouting "GRANDMA!" as I have so many times seen them do with such joy in their hearts. Knowing that I would never again on this earth see Hon and Hon holding each other. Kissing. Making each other laugh. This doesn't seem like a moment to speak about the beauty of life, yet I can only find myself focusing the last few days on just that - the beauty of life.
